Applying for Unemployment Benefits:
Visit the Department of Labor and Economic Development website to apply for unemployment insurance. Starting April 13th, independent contractors will be able to apply for Unemployment Insurance.

SBA Cares Act:
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act more commonly referred to as the "CARES act" provides $360 billion total for new Small Business Administration (SBA) programs, the 7(a) Paycheck Protection Program loans and the Economic Disaster loans (EIDL) advance grants program.
The National Association of REALTORS® reports, "Small businesses that meet current SBA requirements, any business with 500 or fewer employees, sole proprietors, independent contractors, and “gig economy” workers qualify for the 7(a) PPP loans." With this in mind, sole proprietors and independent contractors would be eligible for the SBA 7(a) PPP loan program.
